Whether it’d be during a guided bush walk, an invigorating mountain bike ride or on the back of a horse, let nature engulf you and enjoy.

The golf course.

The golf course has been designed by the internationally renowned golf designer David Jones, a board member of the European Tour and former Kenya Open Champion. He represented Great Britain and Ireland, and latterly Europe, in the PGA Cup Matches against the USA, twice as captain, and seven times as a player. David has designed golf courses all over the world and brings a wealth of talent and experience to the project as well as his longstanding appreciation of East Africa.

The par for the golf course will be 72, with the traditional mix of four par threes, four par fives, and ten par fours. There will be four sets of tees for each hole, allowing the course to be played from a championship length of around 6,500 meters down to a gentle 5,400 meters. All the greens will be built to USGA specification, which is the accepted standard for high quality surfaces throughout the world. With large greens, subtle changes of elevation, and strategically placed bunkers, the course has been designed to allow all golfers a fair route to the fairways and greens.

The most dramatic holes are those, which are integrated with the ponds and streams, particularly the final holes of each nine, which both approach the clubhouse over a large lake. The clubhouse itself will sit slightly raised above the fairway and green levels, providing spectacular views across the course to the surrounding hills and mountains. There will be extensive practice facilities close to the clubhouse.

David describes the course at Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate as follows:

The first nine tees off just beside the clubhouse with the very first green bordering a lake surrounded by acacias. The second hole runs the length of one of the largest lakes on the property of which the various levels are separated by small waterfalls and cascades.

The course then loops around the highest part of the site before returning to the club at the ninth, a beautiful and demanding par five, played along the stream on the left with an option to lay up for two or go for the green across the lake.

The second nine runs round the lower part of the estate, with some dramatic natural water features along the furrow, expanding into long and strategically placed lakes at the 12th, 13th and 14th.

The final hole, a real risk-versus-reward par five, requires a bold approach to a wonderful island green.
